Through the characters’ actions and situations, Anthony Burgess uses

the theme of human overpopulation which drives the novel’s events. When using human population to create an association with Malthus’ population theory and eugenics, Burgess has the intention to take events from the past to create an imagined place in which everything opposes perfection, to in some way offer warnings of disaster that can occur in the future. Through the novel’s events, the author also claims that human overpopulation and some of its presented solutions can bring problems in human life, and humans must evaluate their morals to prevent future negative possibilities concerning population growth and government control.
